Project Title: Innovation Strategy Framework Project
Project Description:This award winning, niche, innovation consultancy focused on the insurance and InsurTech sectors have worked with most of the Tier 1 insurance companies over the years in areas that range from providing clients with blue sky thinking, helping them to create next-gen insurance propositions and also helping insurance companies create and manage their internal innovation functions.

As the industry players migrate from a fairly basic innovation programme to an organisation wide core function they have realised that they lack the skills, tools, and experience which is where we come in. One of their typical challenges is, for instance, how they create an innovation strategy.

We are looking to work with a post-grad to help us create a generic Innovation Strategy Framework that could be used by Innovation leaders within the insurance sector to help them quickly and easily create an innovation strategy.

We expect the post grad to identify the key elements required for an innovation strategy framework and to create a template that can be customised by innovation managers to suit the size, maturity and objectives of a particular innovation programme.

Start date ASAP but ideally early August 2017 with the final delivery around late September 2017. The placement is for 100 hours.

Key Areas of Work & Outcomes of Placement:
  • The Innovation Strategy Framework will be utilised by either senior executives or heads of innovation functions to create an Innovation Strategy that shapes and guides the way that innovation programmes are implemented and managed within a large insurance organisation.
  • The outcome will be an Innovation Strategy Framework which we see as a presentation that can be configured to suit an individual organisation / Innovation programmes size and maturity.
  • The presentation will need to be supported by a report explaining the relevance of the component parts of the framework and things to consider when defining or customising these sections.
  • Ideally the report will include a section on the importance / value / benefits of having an Innovation Strategy and maybe a section on how to select the innovation team.
  • Some tips / examples on how to implement an organisation wide innovation programme within an insurance business that is compelling across the organisation.

Skills required:

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A comprehensive understanding of the corporate innovation process
  • Excellent written English skills
  • Feel comfortable interviewing (face to face or over the phone) senior management level contacts
  • Familiarity with strategy frameworks
  • Familiarity with the Lean Start-up Process
  • An interest in wanting to develop a career in Innovation strategy would be useful
  • Knowledge of the insurance sector is not required and we can provide any information that may be required

Gaining experience and developing skills:

Innovation is one of the hottest agenda items for most exec teams and management boards in large corporations globally. The insurance industry is no exception and in fact are relying on innovation within their business to help them evolve, revolutionise and disrupt (or defend against other people / organisations looking to disrupt) the industry

The Innovation Strategy Framework is likely to be utilised by a number of insurance organisations, potentially around the globe, to help them shape their innovation strategy.

The project is potentially, likely to attract the attention of several insurance companies, the insurance trade publications and the big 5 consultancies. The project will help the post-grad to improve their knowledge and experience of the innovation process which is a very desirable skill for management roles in the global insurance sector currently.
