Project Title: Computational Fluid Dynamics Project - Agglomeration
Project Description:We are one of the UKs largest food manufactures, which produces many leading brands. There are 4 manufacturing centres at Worksop. This project will be focusing on the manufacturing process of branded stock and gravy granule cubes.

Currently the product is produced using a fluid bed agglomerator which is then formed into the cube. The process has remained the same for many years and is now ready for some serious analysis to extract further benefits and quality improvements to ensure everyones Sunday lunch continues to be perfect!

At Worksop we are experts in food manufacture but dont necessarily have the skills and expertise to accurately model the agglomeration process and draw out the necessary conclusions, so we are looking for a postgraduate to work on this exciting and innovative project with us.

There are tangible benefits in energy reduction, yield/capacity optimisation and product quality to leave a lasting impression on a great product.

Key Areas of Work & Outcomes of Placement:

It is hoped that the placement would facilitate, via reports and process modelling, feasibility studies and other work benefits to the process including;
  • Energy reduction
  • Yield/capacity improvements
  • Product quality improvements inc batch to batch variation
  • Optimum methods of manufacture

Skills required:
  • Chemical/process engineering knowledge related to Fluid Bed Drying/Agglomeration ideally
  • Process modelling experience
  • Ability to communicate at all levels from Operators to Senior Management
  • Computer literate
  • Food technology knowledge desirable but not essential as we will assist with this

Successful candidates will gain practical and demonstrable experience in the following key areas:
  • Working in a blue chip manufacturing environment on a multi-million pound brand
  • Real demonstrable experience in process improvement/optimisation
  • Exposure to all levels and departments in the business i.e. technical/R&D/operations/supply chain/engineering
  • Involved in improvements from a pilot(model)scale to full production
