Project Title: Investigating digital wellbeing in an arts and cultural setting
Project Description:We are a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), with a focus on digital and visual media. Our core business involves a programme of gallery exhibitions, cinema, cafe hospitality and educational/participatory workshops and projects.

For 18/19, the gallery programme team will undertake a new method of working around yearlong themes, starting with the theme - wellbeing. Including gallery exhibitions, workshops and activities, public talks and conferences, residencies, partnerships with health & wellbeing organisations and major projects.

We is looking for a postgraduate placement to research and investigate how digital engagement with arts and culture affects wellbeing, with relevance to our programme activity.

The successful applicant will:
  • research current work in the area of digital wellbeing
  • develop methodologies for feedback and evaluation in relation to workshop delivery and gallery visitation
  • provide insight to the programme teams exhibition, wellbeing, educational and participatory activities
  • support/observe the delivery of digital focused workshops (delivery of workshops is also encouraged where it supports research)
  • identify barriers to digital access of arts and culture
  • attend and feedback on relevant networking, conference and symposium events

The timeframe for this placement is to coincide with two digital focused main gallery exhibitions looking at online digital lives and historical aspects of VR, as well as our Digital Participatory Artist in Residence.

Key Areas of Work & Outcomes of Placement:

A report of key findings will be written detailing the work undertaken, findings and relevant recommendations, to include developed/identified methods of feedback and evaluation supporting digital creative activity. This report will ideally be shared among the wider arts and culture sector.

There maybe an opportunity to present findings at a wellbeing conference. Other opportunities to present are also encouraged.

Skills required:
  • Evidence of project management and evaluation
  • Experience of qualitative research data collection and methodologies
  • Understanding of arts & culture and/or wellbeing
  • Delivery/understanding of digital focused activities
  • Report writing skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
