Project Title: Creative Work Studio Space Research Project
Project Description:We are the largest gallery outside London dedicated to promoting culturally diverse arts. The organisation has a creative programme, education and family programme, community outreach, talent development and business development programmes.

Our mission is to create and promote culturally diverse contemporary visual art from across the world. We are a National Portfolio Organisation funded through Arts Council England. Part of its remit is to develop a creative and supportive environment for artists, and NEA is exploring options to deliver a creative studio space to include opportunities for artistic residencies.

The Board have given their approval to prepare a Business Case for the acquisition, refurbishment and management of a former library as a creative studio space to support the mission of the organisation. This position is to provide research capacity to the Business Development team, by undertaking a study into the viability of creating a bespoke space in the former library and will be used to inform the preparation of the Business Case.

Key Areas of Work & Outcomes of Placement:
  • Identify and undertake survey of all creative spaces in D2N2 area with aim of providing evidence of current supply
  • Identify and undertake survey of target audience (graduates, independent artists, gallery artists etc) to understand potential demand
  • Contact similar projects elsewhere in UK to provide benchmark information on different models, management, operation styles to inform preparation of business case
  • Liaise with UK organisations and stakeholders responsible for provision of creative space to inform preparation of business case
  • Research and liaise with various funding organisations to explore opportunities for funding the project
  • Prepare and present written evidence to form part of the business case
